I’ve been trying out engineering with a character I boosted from 70 to 100. When making stuff to sell on the AH as an Engineer, how do you do it efficiently? I’ve been told gathering the parts on your own takes too much time (like mining all the ores you need), but I don’t have an influx of gold to buy whatever I want off of the AH (example being Living Steel. Wanted to make one for myself until I saw how ridiculous the process to make them is and how expensive they are)
Professions skills are split between expansions now, you'll have a separate skill bar for each expansion. This means you can level the new Battle for Azeroth skill tier without putting any point into any of the previous expansions tiers, you don't have to level Leatherworking with older materials to be able to craft the new BfA items. You can read more about this in my BfA Profession overview.
Sky golem is all profit if you do the smart thing and run old panda farms on multiple toons. Was running 10 farms at one point till bfa launched and was upto my eyeballs in trillium and Ghost iron. Just not been doing it lately, but those 10 farms was an hour a day if that and sustained 4 crafters and alchemists though could have sustained 8 easily.

That's mostly it, but it's linked to the fact you can transmute ghost iron bars into trillium bars, which can be transmuted into Living Steel. So ghost iron is really really useful for sky golems and panther mounts, because they require 4 Living Steel's, which means 24 trilliums or 240 Ghost Iron bars, if you wanna go that way instead of farming the trillium itself!
I think that's server dependant. I make a lot of Golems, but the price on my server is high enough that you could buy all the living steel and still make about 20K (almost 200kg on AH). Its just that you proc all the way up the chain. You proc 20% of your trillium, and then 20% of your living steel. SoH and Ghost Iron are such low effort farms, too. 20% of 180 Trillium Bars at 500g is 18k more profit, 20% of 150 Living Steel at 3500g is another 105kg. That's an extra 25k profit per Golem. If they stop selling stockpile them for the next expansion, they always boom with the price of herbs. And a consistent 20% proc rate is the opposite of RNG, its extra free stuff as a benefit to completing an extra quest (not to mention for new alchemists the investment of leveling Vanilla Alchemy). You're looking for some get rich quick scheme, where the real way to build wealth is patience and volume. No market is going to be viable because you want it to be. Only because you make it viable.
I would also like to point out, just because it gave me a giggle, that in one sentence you highlight that everyone is trying to make gold in BfA and then in another direct people back to the Engineering/JC mounts as a proposed solution. While I appreciate the suggestion, you seem smart enough to realize that those, too, are saturated markets. They have been for years now, so that's just moving from one camped market to another.

Allied races aren’t much better. You can only earn them by grinding out reputation. It doesn’t take that long but casual players will need to invest a couple weeks primarily to it, and focusing on that grind will take you away from others, like earning gear. Each race has its own grind, but the things you do to work through it remain the same, adding to your boredom.

A variety of people use professions in this game for different purposes. Some just use them for their own needs and some use them because their game is making gold on the auction house. This is part of the problem since blizzard never seems to be able to please both groups lately because they don't spend enough money on that aspect of the game to offer enough of a variety of patterns/recipes.
The thing I liked best about the wide shuffle of those days was that it made ALL of my alts feel valuable. I'd get some ore some was sent to the miner to be smelted and then on to the blacksmith for belt buckles. The rest went to the jewelcrafter to prospect. Some of those got cut, the rest got turned into jewelry that was either sold or disenchanted. The enchanter then converted those mats into scrolls. Meanwhile the army of alchemists transmuted that expansion's elemental material (volatiles, sorcerous, etc). It felt like a whole business operation.

Next, Enormous amount of mats? 4200 Ghost Iron Ore. That's it. Look at Depleted Kyparium Rocket or Turbo-charged Flying machine or the mechanohog, all have more complex recipes with mats requiring you to go to a vendor to get. Let's be honest I bought a bunch of Hula dolls because who wants to go to Shattrath anyway but c'mon. What you're saying is just not true. Its simple, its quick, and the procs aren't random (I transmuted 100 Trillium bars last night and got 122 bars). Most people don't need the procs, but optimizing allows you to make more gold, and ultimately this is a goldmaking subreddit. If you don't want to follow the advice, don't join that market.

Like I said, engineering is the best when you aren't worried about making gold. The Loot-a-rang is super useful, nitro-boosts are nice when they don't fail, and the glider cape enchant is nice too... you get wormholes to Pandaria, Draenor (make sure you have a glider), Legion, and Argus (as well as a couple old world teleport locations)...Jeeves (and to a lesser extent Reeves) and MOLL-E are also super useful (bank and mail access anywhere, repairs, etc.).
But every new character made that wants to craft old expansion stuff will have to level using expansion specific materials. Stocking up on profession materials that are already high in demand can be a great idea. This will primarily be materials used to craft the various mounts. Ghost Iron, Trillium, Living Steel, Pyrium etc. are all great candidates to stock up on.

Azerite equipment is currently balanced around being able to unlock the outermost, earliest tier of power immediately upon acquisition, while delaying further advancement until the Heart has been further empowered. For example, the first piece of Azerite equipment, gained shortly after the Heart itself, is fully empowered once the Heart of Azeroth has reached level 3. A character at 120 (the maximum for the expansion) may find a piece whose first tier requires the Heart to have grown to level 12 or greater.

I have probably said this exact same thing a dozen times but it's worth saying a dozen more. Old world engineering is awesome right now. I make enough for my monthly token and then some simply buy selling auto hammers, gunshoes, and 1 sky golem. 100% of mats purchased from auction house. It's the easiest, laziest way I have ever made gold and i love it.
Disable alpha versions in your Curse client if you do not want multiple updates per day. Make sure you check main download preference as well as DBM's individual download preference. You could have primary method set to release and dbm still set to alpha. Right click on DBM itself in curse client addon list and set it to release/beta to avoid the daily updates.

Came back from a good break again but really enjoying BFA so far. I've really been interested this time in getting my transmog sets, pets, mounts pretty much all collections / achievs. I've never been interested in this stuff since wow vanilla so it's like a whole new game to me, which is pretty cool! My current 5 man instance party is Resto Shaman, Resto Druid and 3 Hunters which works out really well. Double healer + 3 dps that can serve as tanks seems to cheese lots of encounters.

Any decently geared 90 can complete a Pit of Saron trash mob run in 3-5 minutes. Each mob in the heroic version has a chance of dropping a Battered Hilt, which sell on the auction house for around 10k. Video guides will show the best route to take to pull all the trash mobs at once if you're a class with good AOE; other classes can simply pull less mobs at a time and loot as they go. While this method is a little less reliable than farming Vale-- after all, you're left to the mercy of RNG gods-- it has a higher chance of huge windfall because you could get a multiple hilts every run. Pull the mobs, burn 'em down, and cross your fingers when you loot. On top of the hilts, there's plenty of vendor trash, BoP epics for enchanters, and even a trinket that turns you into a gorilla. You will have to have completed the Forge of Souls in Icecrown Citadel to access this particular dungeon, though.

There’s a lot of #content in the new expansion. It’s mostly locked behind a variety of gates, some of which players can’t even control. Warfronts are the best example. You might assume joining a Warfront is a simple matter of opening the group finder. Wrong! Warfronts are only accessible for a week at a time. It’s not precisely clear how often that week will come around (it’s based both on a time gate and on the opposing faction gathering resources) but, as of right now, it looks likely to be available just one week out of every four.

Hey OC! Many productive people have made some really great spreadsheets/guides for players to progress and start BFA. I decided to compile the most well worked (public) guides I could find and shamelessly post them here. Some might have been posted on the forums before. I'll try update the post whenever something new is posted before release. All credits goes to the people who's dedicated hours upon hours on creating these guides.
"Essentially the Scrap-o-Matic 1000 (and Shred-Master Mk1) works like the Obliterum Forge in Legion however one major difference from Legion is that you can use it to break down any gear obtained that is from the Battle for Azeroth expansion, including dungeon/raid drops, quest rewards, world drops and crafted gear. Apart from a chance at getting Expulsion you will also get ore, gems, leather, occasional enchanting mats (from scrapping cloth gear) and other crafting mats. The best way to obtain Expulsion seems to be from breaking down rare/epic gear you obtain from dungeons and raids, killing rare elites and doing world quests, it also drops rarely from BFA uncommon quality items."
Recipe ranks basically make you more efficient at making stuff, either by letting you craft the same number of items for fewer materials or getting a higher yield from the same amount of materials. As an example, having a one-star rank recipe lets you craft items at a relatively inefficient way, but when you acquire two-star or even three-star recipes, it can almost feel like you are crafting items out of thin air because of the low amount of materials required for each craft.
With the most in-demand decks going for up to 20,000 Gold each, Basil believes that Darkmoon cards (12 of which when combined form a full deck) can earn scribes the highest possible WoW Gold. But he said that it takes intricate planning and logistics to really ramp up the Gold income from Darkmoon cards due to the constraints surrounding its crafting cooldown.
