Professions skills are split between expansions now, you'll have a separate skill bar for each expansion. There are still 950 profession levels in total, just that there is no one single progress bar with 1 to 950 for it anymore. Instead, there are 8 separate progress bars. (The only exception is Archaeology, because it will still have a 1-950 progress bar)
That's where i'm at now. I got into it late. I had 40k to start. Sold fish up to about 100k total starting capital. Started making and selling decks when they were going for 80-200k on my server. Morons have repeatedly undercut decks by 30-60k at a time even after the market has been reset (not by me) multiple times. Now the decks are 25-80k... I did manage to make 3.5m gross in the last 2 weeks. Now the individual cards are selling for MUCH less than the decks so I may stop crafting myself and just start buying the individuals... idk where to go from there though. Do you think the decks will hold any value moving forward? I'm kind of hoping for something similar to obliterum in legion to increase the ilvl and keep them relevant.

If you transmute 10 times then you can't rely on the 20% proc rate, once you pass 1000 though, you're average will start approaching the true rate of 1.2 bars per transmute. If you are in this for the long haul it then makes a lot of sense to use the average proc rate to calculate your profits, especially considering the fact that all the items involved sell really well.
It is really, really a stark change of pace from WoD and Legion where just questing and killing things would result in at least a small but decent profit from a day's activities, typically of at least 1k and often 2k. But now to get that sort of return, I have to really focus on gold WQ's, not spend any money on anything that I don't absolutely have to, and do 45 minutes of Legion content.

Unless Blizzard has some real story shake-ups and a phenomenally tuned raid on the horizon, I’m honestly expecting the sharpest player decrease to set in within the next few months. The expansion itself has some interesting ideas, but sticking to a World Quest grindfest is quickly becoming the norm, and the Island Expeditions aren’t exactly exciting.
So when you log in to the game, as soon as you cast a spell, you will experience some kind of lag. The movement doesn’t register with the database and thus the lag is experienced. You can observe this when you get DCed from the server and return back to the original position, unless you have traveled enough distance to be registered in the database.
Rank 3 is terrible design, if they we're most open about how they drop etc. I, as a avid LW collector (Yes I have all recipes in-game but IIRC 1 from vanilla, few from TBC that was removed due to stupid design), and I still dont have all rank3 from LW despite plenty of runs through the 5 mans for em...Ill just wait for next exp or w/e and stealth runs.
Use enchanting to craft tomes of illusions. Every expansion has its own mats, and they're all the easiest thing in the world to farm. You run a dungeon with an enchantor, disenchant everything, gather some elementals or gems for pandaria, and craft a tome which can sell for a good amount if you babysit it well. Sold a draenor one for 22k the other day, and Pandaria ones for 7k and 9k. >THIS IS AN EXAMPLE. If the prices aren't interesting on your server, find something else. It's that simple.<

Heck many don't even need transmute master to be viable. Changes were also made to levelling in earlier content with Legion's 7.3.5 patch. The level-scaling tech introduced in Legion not only be continued in the new continents of Kul Tiras and Zandalar, but was also be applied to content from prior expansions, allowing larger level brackets for lower level zones. Further, as previous expansions are now included in the base game, the level ranges for those expansions are now broadened, allowing players to spend more time leveling in preferred expansions and avoid others entirely. Some examples include a zone like Westfall having its level bracket (at 10–15 as of Legion) increased to 10–60, whilst continents such as Outland and Northrend sharing a 60–80 level bracket. The aim of this change is to encourage more player choice whilst levelling and to allow players to experience the full story of a particular zone without overlevelling the relevant quests.

All of this is to say that while you make some good points, such as not trying to farm what everyone else is farming, look for other opportunities, it's not always as simple as just going back to old content. I've heard from many others on this subreddit over the years that the examples I show above are neither unique to my server, nor are they new problems. This might be part of why so many people are expressing difficulty in finding their way.
They already are with the leveling changes and Blizz fucking up the API. AH focused players have been flying blind the last few weeks without API, as well as the re-introduction of unobtainable items that are now back in the game, as well as the enchanting changes (Dusts got squished already). Some of them are waiting it out, others are just doing their normal thing.
